This policy explains what RifflePages ("we") collects when you use the website, why, who we share it with and how long we keep it. We keep as little as possible: there are no accounts, and your files are deleted within 24 hours.
Privacy Policy

1. What we collect
- Your files: the PDF you upload and the EPUB and preview we make from it, plus details read from the file (title, author, number of pages). If a conversion fails because of an error on our side, the PDF may be kept for up to 3 days so we can fix the problem (see the Terms of Use). If a scanned book fails, the text already read from it is kept for a while so that uploading the same file again carries on where it stopped.
- An anonymous session: a random code saved in your browser so your books appear in My books. We store only a fingerprint (hash) of that code, and a salted fingerprint of your IP address — never the address itself — to prevent abuse.
- If you ask to be told when a book is ready: that e-mail address, deleted as soon as the e-mail is sent.
- If you report a problem with a conversion: what you wrote, your e-mail address, the PDF you send with the report, and a copy of the EPUB we made from it.
- If you translate a book: the language you chose, a copy of the book's EPUB to translate from, and the translated preview and EPUB we make. If you upload an EPUB to translate: the file, its name and size, a fingerprint of it (to spot the same file uploaded twice), and its title, author and cover.
- When you buy: your e-mail address, your country (detected from your connection), the price, a voucher code if you used one, and the payment provider's reference for the payment.
- Our own statistics: your country (detected from your connection, never your address) when you start a session or upload a book, and for each conversion only numbers — pages, words, how long it took, whether it worked. They contain no file names, titles or e-mail addresses.
- Usage statistics through Google Analytics: pages visited and steps such as uploading, opening the preview and buying. It never receives your files, book titles or e-mail address.
- Technical server logs (time, page requested, IP address), kept for a few days for security and fixing problems.
We never receive your card, bank or e-wallet details: you enter them on the payment page of our payment provider (Tripay in Indonesia, Polar elsewhere).
2. How we use it
- to convert your files and show you your books and the free preview;
- to tell you when a book is ready, if you asked us to;
- to investigate and answer a problem you report, and to fix the converter;
- to translate a book you bought or an EPUB you upload, when you ask us to;
- to process your payment and deliver the book you bought, including the e-mail with your download link and receipt;
- to prevent abuse (upload limits, bot protection) and keep the service secure;
- to keep the records that accounting and tax law require;
- to understand, in aggregate, how the website is used and improve it.
We don't sell your data, show ads or build profiles about you.
3. Who we share it with
- Payment providers — Tripay (Indonesia) and Polar (other countries) — receive your e-mail, the amount and the order reference to process the payment.
- Our e-mail provider sends the "book is ready" e-mail, the download link and the receipt to your e-mail address.
- Google (the Gemini API, a paid service) receives the text of a book you ask us to translate, to translate it. Under Google's terms for the paid service, it doesn't use that text to improve its products, and logs it only for a limited time, solely to detect and prevent abuse.
- Google Analytics receives the usage statistics described above. In the EU, UK and Switzerland it runs without analytics cookies.
- Our hosting provider stores the data on our server.
We disclose data to authorities only when the law requires it.
4. How long we keep it
- Uploaded PDF: deleted as soon as it is converted, at the latest 24 hours after upload.
- PDF of a conversion that failed because of an error on our side: up to 3 days, then deleted (at once if you delete the book).
- Text read from a scanned PDF whose conversion failed: kept on the conversion server while the failed book is shown (24 hours after the failure), so uploading the same file again carries on where it stopped. Deleted within an hour if you delete the book.
- PDF sent with a problem report, and the copy of its EPUB: up to 14 days, then deleted (at once if you delete the book). The e-mail address on a report: 90 days. What you wrote in the report is kept, without the address, as a record of the problem.
- EPUB and preview: deleted 24 hours after conversion, also after you have paid.
- Translations: the copy of a bought book used to translate it is deleted as soon as the translation is finished; the translated preview and EPUB 24 hours after they are made (an unpaid preview 24 hours after you start it).
- An EPUB you upload to translate: deleted with its translation, at the latest 24 hours after the translation is made. If its translation failed because of an error on our side: up to 3 days.
- A small record of each conversion (file name, size, a fingerprint of the file): up to 30 days.
- Anonymous sessions: deleted 7 days after you last used RifflePages.
- Orders and payment records: as long as accounting and tax law require.
- Our own statistics (country and numbers, nothing that identifies you or your book): kept to see how the service is doing.
- Server logs: a few days.
5. Your choices and rights
- Delete a book at any time with Delete book: its files are removed immediately.
- Clear your browser's site data to disconnect it from your books.
- Ask us to access, correct or delete your personal data (for example your e-mail on an order) by writing to [email protected]. We may need to keep payment records the law requires.
You can also exercise the rights given by the data protection law that applies to you, such as Indonesia's Personal Data Protection Law (UU PDP).
6. Security
The website uses HTTPS. Your books are tied to your browser session and can't be opened by anyone else, except through the links we e-mail you: the “book is ready” link (it adds the book to the browser that opens it) and the download link are signed and stop working when the files are deleted.
7. Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the current version; important changes will be announced on the website.
