Turn a PDF into a book your Kobo reads properly

A Kobo opens a PDF as fixed pages. Converted to EPUB, the same book reflows to your font and size, with its chapters in the table of contents.

  • No account
  • Free 8-page preview
  • Files deleted after 24 h

Only upload books you own or have the right to convert.

From scan to e-reader

The Great Gatsby (1925), a scan from the Internet Archive (public domain), converted by RifflePages.

PDF or EPUB on a Kobo

On a Kobo, a PDF keeps its printed page: you pinch to zoom and pan across every line, and the font settings don't apply. A scanned PDF has no text to search or highlight.

EPUB is the Kobo's own format. The text reflows to the screen, the font and margins are yours to choose, and the table of contents, highlights and dictionary all work.

What RifflePages does to the book

It reads scanned pages with OCR, removes running heads and page numbers, joins paragraphs across pages and rebuilds the chapters.

Italics, small caps, scene breaks and footnotes come through as part of the text, and drawings as images with their captions, not as pictures of whole pages.

Questions

Should I use EPUB or KEPUB on a Kobo?

A plain EPUB works on every Kobo. KEPUB is Kobo's own variant with extra reading statistics; Calibre's Kobo driver can make one from the EPUB if you want them.

Does it work with a Clara, Libra or Sage?

Yes. Every Kobo e-reader opens EPUB, and so do the Kobo apps.

My PDF is a scan. Will it work?

Yes: scanned pages go through OCR. Check the free preview first: what you see is what you get.

What does it cost?

The preview of the first 8 pages is free. The full EPUB is one fixed price per book, shown below. There's no subscription.
